Writing is going well.

I just got home from a great trip to Nashville to do some co-writing.  I wrote with Stu G, Paul Colman, Daniel Ornellas, and Michelle Thompson.  I’m truly excited to start recording this next EP, but I’m not sure when that will happen.  Hopefully in the next 6 months.

Crazy Times!

Hey friends,

Long time no see.  My family and I are getting settled in Montana and my role in God’s ministry at Clydehurst Christian Ranch is such a blessing.  This site has been down for some time and I’m glad to get it back up.  I have a lot of ideas and I sure hope I can have the discipline to follow through with them.  I would like to post video that will help you learn to play and lead the songs from the “Songs in Response” EP series.  I will also be sharing tips in leading music at gatherings.

I’ve had a blast getting out and visiting so many people over the last couple of months.  It was a true joy.  My calendar is really full and I love being busy.  It’s exciting!  I will do my best to keep you all up to speed on my Events tab.

Keep serving God and enjoy all of His goodness!  I’ll try to “be present” on this site much more than I have.

What A Summer!

Hey everyone,

I just returned from my first summer at Clydehurst in 12 years.  It was such a blessing and it also took me away from keeping up on my site.  Sorry about that.  I’ll begin updating it again.  The plan is to post videos that will teach you how to lead the songs from “All Glory Is Yours” and to keep you up to date on where I’ll be and when.

God bless you guys!

The Story Behind: “All Glory is Yours”

I’ve really enjoyed leading worship, I always have. I have found out over the years that it’s not as simple as you might think. Or maybe it’s so simple that you shouldn’t think; either way, I will continue to blog and explore and explain what has worked and not worked for me and what Scripture says about worship and leading worship. We may not figure out the exact way to do it, but it all starts with realizing that it’s not about us. It’s for God and His glory.
In October, I had traveled out to Nashville to spend some time writing and demoing for this upcoming record. (which ended up being an EP) I am so intrigued by what makes a great worship song. I always considered every song I’ve written a worship song since I’m taking what God has given me and giving it back to Him, but congregational worship is a different deal. I wanted to write songs that large groups of very different people, but with the very same goal, can gather together and sing. That means, that some of the element of “being me” is lost in the art of this writing. It is about writing a song for a bunch of people, not for me to find some far out way to create a picture of how crazy I am.
All Glory Is Yours by Scott Brownson
For this reason, most of the songs don’t even have a second verse. I hoped to write songs that would sound great around a campfire, even if the song leader was just learning banjo. It’s a lofty goal and I don’t pretend that I achieved it, but it is a goal none the less. The trick is to remember that the ultimate goal is to touch the heart of God.
“All Glory is Yours” was written after I had returned in October. Most of the time I will have to labor over a song for months, but this song was written in 20 minutes- not a normal thing for me. I was sitting at my desk, strumming my guitar, and started singing, “praise the Father, praise the Son, praise the Spirit three in one. Let Your praise be lifted high.” This immediately made me think, that His ways are high above our ways and His name is far above all names. It’s a very simple idea for sure, but one I easily forget. It is so easy to be in awe of the creation and not the creator. God should get the credit for everything amazing and true and sin should get the credit for everything awful. So many times we blame God for all the things wrong in this world, when He should be praised for His patience and mercy with us. I wanted a song that simply told God that He is worthy of all our praise and that all glory is His.
Here are the lyrics in the key of C. I recorded it in D, but I think C might be a bit easier to sing for everyone.

C
Praise the Father, Praise the Son
G
Praise the Spirit three in one
Am F
Let Your praise be lifted high

G F
Your ways are high above our ways
G F
Your Name is far above all names

C
All glory is Yours in heaven on earth
G
Let this offering song scream of Your worth
Dm F
Be lifted high and exalted we cry, Hallelujah!

This is the last single that Pivitplex recorded. It was inspired by TL Hines book “The Dead Whisper On”. It is a great book and great song. If you have an extra 99 cents, please take a minute and buy it.
